Student Evaluation FAQ
Why do evaluations end before the class is over?
The faculty demand evaluations be closed before final exams to prevent vindictive evaluations. While there is no data to support the theory that students will actively punish instructors through their evaluations for difficult exams or poor grades, the decision was made to pre-emptively cut off the possibility.
Are evaluations really anonymous if my instructor can see that I've submitted an evaluation?
Yes, evaluations really are anonymous; there is no link between a submitted evaluation and a particular student. Instructors can see that a student has filled out an evaluation, but only after a minimum of four other students in the class have as well, and they are never able to see which evaluation a specific student filled out.
That said, if a student enters personally identifying information in the comments section of the evaluation, the instructor will know who submitted that individual comment.
Why are the evaluations questions the same for all classes?
The questions used in the evaluations are mandated by the state. If there is information you would like to add that isn't covered by the provided questions, please include it in the comments section.
The evaluation questions aren't useful for students - can the you change the questions?
Unfortunately, we can't change the questions asked in the upper portion of the evaluation. The state mandates the questions that are asked. Don't give up though! At the end of the evaluation is a section for leaving comments. If you have anything add that isn't covered by the other questions, add it in the comments section.
I didn't get the evaluation email - can I still submit an evaluation?
Yes! Click the LOGIN TO EVALUATE YOUR CLASSES button. Once you have logged in, you will see a list of links to your class evaluations. Click the links to open the class evaluation and get started.
Can I change my evaluation response after I've submitted it?
Yes! Click the LOGIN TO EVALUATE YOUR CLASSES button. Once you have logged in, you will see a list of links to your class evaluations. When an evaluation has been submitted, it will appear grayed out and have a checkmark, but it is still clickable. Click the class for which you want to modify the evaluation, and click the link on the next page to unsubmit it. The evaluation will reopen and allow you to make changes. Click the SUBMIT EVALUATION button when you are done.
How do I check if I've completed all my evaluations?
Click the LOGIN TO EVALUATE YOUR CLASSES button. Once you have logged in, you will see a list of your classes that are open for evaluation. If all the classes are grayed out and have a checkmark, you have completed all your evaluations.
Am I entered into the prize drawing?
If you have completed all your evaluations at the time of a drawing, yes.
Most students can follow the regular steps to check if they have completed all their evaluations and that will be sufficient. There is one caveat: students that were enrolled in an 8-week session during the semester must have also completed all evaluations for those classes during their evaluation periods.
